Black Swan Stud is founded on two decades of racing and breeding fillies.

Black Swan Stud is situated near the town of Robertson in the heart of the BAR valley, the major centre for thoroughbred horse stud farms in South Africa. The 60 ha farm was acquired by Peter de Beyer in 2007, and after developing the necessary infrastructure, opened for production in 2010. The first crop of foals were born on the farm in 2011.

Mare numbers are kept at manageable levels and have developed mostly from yearlings bought by stud owner, Peter de Beyer, and fillies bred by him. Of these, four selected by Peter have won at grade 1 level.

FIELD FLOWER is currently the only Grade 1 winner resident at Black Swan Stud. Her second foal, a colt by WESTERN WINTER, sold for R3 700 000 at the Cape Premier Sale.

The intention is to remain a boutique stud, with a limit of 25 mares and the focus now is on upgrading the broodmare band.

A Black Swan event is statistically rare and can take people by surprise. Just as a black swan is a rarity, so is a grade 1 winner. Less than 1% (one percent) of foals will win at the highest level therefore breeding, or selecting a grade 1 winner, is a Black Swan event.
